CE: "How did you get into cigars?"
JA: "I got into cigars on my 37th birthday in 2020. Yeah, during COVID-19. That was a time for mourning and reflection for me. While practicing social distancing (I stayed home), I got a chance to reflect and think about everything and come up with a bucket list, and trying a cigar was one of them. So, on my birthday, I smoked a Fat Bottom Betty 😂. I had no knowledge or experience but jumped on YouTube, watched some newbie videos, and learned."
CE: "What are your hobbies outside of cigars?"
JA: "Hobbies outside of cigars are watching movies and shows in action, SYFY, and crime genres. I also enjoy reading crime thriller books. Some would say the gym might be a hobby, but for me, it's a mental health thing. A way to handle stress and stay healthy."
CE: "You served 20 years in the U.S. Army? Were there fellow squad mates that partook in cigars? How did those skills transfer to civilian life now that you're managing an Amazon warehouse?"
JA: "I didn't have any battle buddies who smoke cigars. The skills I learned and lived by while transferring to Amazon as a manager have helped a lot. Skills like critical thinking, time management, making decisions on the fly, and leading people are some skills that transfer over well."
CE: "You're a family man. You have two sons who play football for Westfield High School and another who plays for Redlands University in Southern California. How has The Cigar Box community supported you and your family? Has your family mentioned your change since coming to The Cigar Box?"
JA: "The Cigar Box community is like no other! The love and the support they show and give my kids is amazing. We have guys taking time to attend their games, when I come into the shop guys are asking about their performance and just asking how are they doing. My family understands that the Cigar Box is my happy place. I go there to enjoy conversations and cigars and, for some reason, learn something new. The community at the Box allows me to recharge and enjoy my time, allowing me to be a better father, husband, manager, and friend."
CE: "Thanks for supporting our LOCAL business, Juan. Thank you for your service to our country."
